About Apex

Founded by Mr Arthur Lok and Mr Philip Yao in 1983, Inter-Asia Underwriters Co started as a broker in general insurance, covering both direct and agency business. Within one year, the company successfully generated a gross premium of well over HKD3,500,000. Mr Philip Yao, former Business Manager at East West UMI Insurance Corp Ltd who led the company's branch with a 3-digit annual growth rate for 3 consecutive years, joined the management of Inter-Asia in November 1988, spearheading its overall business development. In January 1989, Inter-Asia merged with APEX, forming APEX INSURANCE SERVICES LTD, with Mr Allen Lee and Mr Philip Mak as co-directors. Supported by a team of over 10 technicians and the very comprehensive underwriting facilities, APEX further achieved a gross premium of HKD12,000,000 in the end of the year. Following a series of organizational restructuring,mergers and acquisitions starting from April 1991, Technical Insurance Consultant Ltd and Dorbo Consultants Ltd were integrated into the APEX Group. Two subsidiaries, APEX INSURANCE CONSULTANT LTD and APEX INSURANCE MANAGEMENT LTD were formed, with co-director Mr Johnny Ho managed the business development on the Hong Kong side. Today, APEX has developed into a full-fledged brokerage house, specializing in all lines of property & casualty (general) insurance and employee benefits schemes. With a total floor area of 7,000 sq ft, a workforce of over 50 and a cohort of over 1,500 contracting producers, the Group has grown substantially during the years and is currently handling a gross premium of over HKD140,000,000. APEX's long-term commitment in and dedication to the future of the insurance industry were further enhanced in January 1993 when the implementation of the self-regulated system brought forth the Code of Practice for Administration of Insurance Agents. In addition to streamlining the overall administrative procedures, the Group further injected over HKD1,000,000 to upgrade the computer system. The turbulent property market situation in the first half of 1993 had little impact on APEX's firm conviction of the industry. The Group made huge investments and purchased the present premises adjacent to the Kowloon Cricket Club, this prime office site will accommodate the Group's future development and expansion.
